Test drive the new Windows Live suite

You’ve probably already read about some changes we’re making to Windows Live, and have seen some of your services change over the past few weeks. Starting now, you can test out the new suite of Windows Live software at http://get.live.com/wl/all

Windows Live makes it easy to store and manage your communications and information, and share what’s going on in your life with the people who mean the most to you. Many of you have already tried out new versions of our web services – Windows Live Hotmail, Windows Live Spaces, Windows Live SkyDrive beta, and the new Windows Live Home page beta. These have been designed to work together with a common navigation, so it is easy to switch between your e-mail, your space, your files, and your photos—from any browser.

Today we’re releasing beta versions of a new generation of Windows Live software designed for your Windows PC that makes it easier than ever to get connected to Windows Live or other services. This suite of software includes e-mail (Windows Live Mail), photo sharing (Windows Live Photo Gallery), a great publishing tool that lets you post directly to your blog (Windows Live Writer), parental controls (Windows Live OneCare Family Safety), a new version of Windows Live Messenger (8.5), and more.

Starting today, you’ll be able to install the entire suite of these downloadable Windows Live services at one time, from one place, instead of going through separate installations for each service. Of course, if you don’t want the entire suite, you can still get each application individually.

This new suite of applications is a new way that we can make connecting, communicating, and sharing anywhere a terrific experience on your Windows PC. Together with our web services, we have a complete suite that combines the best of the Web and the best of Windows, and works the way you want.

I really hope you’ll download the betas today at http://get.live.com/wl/all, use them, and let us know what you think. Send us feedback anytime at http://feedback.live.com.

    Thanks,

    Chris Jones
    Vice President
    Windows Live Team

Hi, Chris.... found your blog while seaching for a solution to my problem. I cannot add categories to my live blog. It appears I am only "allowed" so many (about 12 when I go to the Blog Categories area. Yet, there are the "permanent" choices that I never use that appear when I go to select a category. I want none of those. I want to create another of my own, yet the button will not activate.
That is the first problem. Is there a solution you know of?
The second one is that it appears I am only allowed one categoy per blog with Live Blogs. Do you have a solution for me here to add more per blog?
    With appreciation!

Worst version of messenger. Keeps on giving error message with one hotmail account but always signs in with the other. Too many complaints about it on the web and can't even revert back to old version to sign in. I'm stuck in the limbo

    Dear Chris Jones:
This update/change was really a very bad idea, because nothing works. WORSE!, I lost my Messenger, Live Writer and Live Mail that were working super!!! Looking for some ways to fix them (among a lot of Microsoft sites), I was only able to recover my Messenger 8.5 back, but PLEASE tell me, at least, what to do to get my WL MAIL work again!!!!! (all my contact lists were "unable to be uploaded and it shuts down due to a catastrophic error 0x8000ffff"). Now, I want to download WLM 2008 and it says it´s impossible because WL Suite is missing, but if I download it, I will lost my Messenger 8.5 again and I don´t want it. I DO WANT TO RECOVER WINDOWS LIVE AS IT WAS!!!!!!!
Besides, and even more, I don´t understand why this can´t be solved returning the pc to a previous restore point!!!
Please, email me the necessary instructions to fix this. This new version of WL not only doesn´t work at all, but made me (and quite a lot of other users) lost the good one. (I have Windows Vista Home edition. I regret so much of having changed my XP!!!)
Thanks in advance for all you can do for helping me with all this mess. I DO NEED to recover WL as it was because I work a lot with it!). Will be awaiting for your soonest reply.
PS: Windows Live Writer was completely lost!
    These "betas" are completely garbage!
